The Wampanoag Nation Singers and Dancers from Mashpee, Mass. will share Eastern Social Songs and Dances. Dressed in hand made regalia made from deer-skin, they emphasize the old-age style of the Eastern Woodlands People of this region.
The Wolf Cry Singers, an intertribal women's hand drum group from Massachusetts, will sing songs and chants that include traditional and contemporary songs of the Mi'kMaq, Cherokee, Navajo, Abenaki and Delaware.
Navajo artist Rex Begaye will have on display and for sale his fine artwork.
Mashpee Wampanoag artist, Marlene Blake, will demonstrate “finger weaving”. This form of weaving predates that of the loom.
Dave Little Tree will share Iroquois Songs and Social Dances accompanied by a small water drum, a traditional instrument of the Northeast.
On Saturday visitors can watch and ask questions as Peter White Fox sets up the tipi. Later, they can help Peter put up the wickiup. The wickiup is a round-framed home with the covering made of skins. It is a home primarily used by the Southwestern Natives. The tipi is a dwelling for transient people like the Plains Indians. The framework is arranged in a cone shape. It is purposely asymmetrical. The covering is made of canvas but years ago it was made from buffalo hide.
Traditional foods include buffalo burgers, buffalo ribs, marinated venison, fry bread, fried clams, fried scallops, stuffed quahogs, and American fare for sale by MCNAA (hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, soda, etc.)
