About National Night Out
Each year in August, the Boston Police Department's National Night Out events take over parks, backyards and front porches in neighborhoods throughout Boston and all over the country as neighborhood crime watch groups celebrate their achievements in a fun and festive setting that involves the entire community.

National Night Out Boston 2007 is the 24th annual citywide celebration to unify our communities throughout the City of Boston. This program cultivates and strengthens partnerships between the community, youth, Police, city agencies and community-based organizations. National Night Out also acknowledges the remarkable contributions of Neighborhood Crime Watch groups, and seeks to increase participation in Neighborhood Crime Watch programs among local residents.

This year's National Night Out (NNO) featured cookouts, block parties and events designed to focus attention on community participation in crime prevention efforts. District Captains hosted events and participated with law enforcement officials from twenty local cities and towns in the NNO 'Hands Across the River' event on the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge over the Charles River.

Commissioner Evans and Mayor Menino toured Boston's neighborhoods in a day-long cavalcade to visit with citizens and underscore how important their ongoing cooperation has been and will continue to be to in crime prevention efforts citywide.

Each year Boston's crime watch groups gain tremendous momentum from the recognition the National Night Out festivities bring to their successful year round effort to rid their neighborhoods of crime. These events also help to strengthen police and resident partnerships in neighborhoods throughout Boston, and help us all to understand how far we've come in making Boston a safer place to live.
