Immediately after the Marathon bombing on April 15th, 2013, Bostonians responded to violence and hate with selflessness and love.

It was in that spirit that One Boston Day was born, encouraging people everywhere to commit random acts of kindness, big and small.

Over the years, this continued show of support has inspired the survivors and family members of the victims to connect, heal, and pay the kindness forward in ways both inspiring and profound.

Mayor Michelle Wu and the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) will mark One Boston Day with a wreath laying on Boylston Street and volunteer events leading up to April 15. One Boston Day honors the victims, survivors, and first responders of the 2013 Boston Marathon.

Residents are encouraged to participate in service events hosted by the City and its partners, or to take part in their own acts of kindness. Click here to find a list of volunteer events and more information.

Franklin Park Cleanup
Mayor Wu will volunteer with City staff, youth, and families to help beautify Franklin Park at a One Boston Day volunteer event hosted by the Mayor’s Office of Civic Organizing.

Wreath Laying
Mayor Wu will join families of those who lost loved ones in 2013 and Governor Maura Healey to lay wreaths at the memorial sites on Boylston Street.

Stepping Strong Center Blood Drive
2:00 p.m.

Mayor Wu will stop by the Stepping Strong Center’s One Boston Day Blood Drive in Kenmore Square. The Stepping Strong Center in partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) will also be offering “Stop the Bleed” training to teach the public how to address life-threatening bleeding in an emergency, provide injury prevention resource materials, and allow the public to create cards for trauma patients.

Old South Church Bells Ringing
Bells will ring at the Old South Church to mark the remembrance at 2:49 p.m.

Several buildings around Boston will light up blue and yellow to recognize One Boston Day, including Boston City Hall, the Bruce Bolling Municipal Building, University of Massachusetts Boston’s Integrated Science Complex, Center Plaza, and the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

In every year since its official establishment in 2015, on April 15, #OneBostonDay has been a leading trend nationally on social media. Last year alone there were over 43,000 posts across social channels. As in the past, Hill Holiday is serving as the creative and digital marketing partner to help spread awareness and raise the visibility of One Boston Day.
