The Doodlebops are one of preschoolers’ favorite rockin’ bands. Their most recent CD and DVD “Get on the Bus” were released in August. They also star in a television show which airs on the Disney Channel. The musical comedy series for children stars Deedee, Rooney and Moe Doodle - three multi-talented, candy-colored band mates who are always on the lookout for a good time. The show features a mix of music, dancing, humor and skits designed to entertain and educate a preschool audience.
Joining The Doodlebops at the festival will be Winchester native Matt Tavares, author and illustrator of books such as Zachary’s Ball, Mudball and Oliver’s Game, winner of a Parent’s Choice Silver Honor and International Reading Association Children’s Book Award. Also appearing will be Sara Pennypacker, author of The Talented Clementine and Praise for Clementine. Justin Roberts & Not Ready for Naptime Players, four-time winner of the Parent’s Choice Gold Honor for their children’s music, will perform. The group’s latest and fifth CD, “Meltdown,” explores kids’ perspectives on everything from sidewalk chalk drawings to oceanside sandcastles to life’s inevitable meltdowns.
The 2007 Boston Globe Children’s Book Festival is presented by Target. Additional sponsors and partners include ReadBoston, The Boston Public Library and the City of Boston Parks & Recreation Department.
Perfect for children up to age nine, The Boston Globe Children’s Book Festival also will feature appearances by costumed characters, interactive activities and author signings. The larger-than-life Target “Big Red Chair,” which measures almost five feet wide, serves as the symbol of Target’s national reading initiative Ready. Sit. Read!, also will be on stage throughout the festival.

About ReadBoston
ReadBoston was founded by Mayor Thomas Menino and other city leaders in 1995 as a non-profit children’s literacy organization with an ambitious goal: to ensure that every child in Boston can read at grade level by the end of the third grade. ReadBoston has focused on that mission to become a catalyst for change in all of Boston’s communities by funneling resources, innovative programs, books, and best practices into Boston neighborhoods, and forming partnerships with organizations committed to helping children.
Reaching our goal of having all children in Boston reading at grade level by the end of third grade involves a multifaceted approach, creating interventions that address the core of why kids cannot read. This can only be achieved by offering multiple literacy interventions and through collaborations with the organizations that serve kids in Boston. Our goal is to build the capacity of the teachers, parents and other educators and to provide them with the training and the resources they need to provide strong literacy instruction to children.
ReadBoston consists of several literacy-rich programs for children from birth through age eight. Our programs reach children in school, after school, during summer vacation, and before they are old enough to attend school. These programs serve children in all of Boston’s neighborhoods. Other initiatives, such as our work with Reading is Fundamental, represent partnerships of a national scale.
