“Play is a critical part of a child’s healthy development. It’s how kids explore their world. It’s how they rehearse for life’s challenges in a safe way,” says Steven Gross, Project Joy’s founder and director. “When children are exposed to traumatic experiences, their fears may keep them from playing. When children stop playing, they stop developing. But with guidance from trusted adults, they can learn how to play again.”
“Our mission at The Little Gym is to promote a fun and non-competitive environment where children develop vital motor skills while also learning self-confidence and social skills. We respect and admire how Project Joy is also helping children in our community and hope to aid their efforts through this event,” said Tracey Leacoma, owner of The Little Gym of West Roxbury.
To help raise awareness and financial support for Project Joy, The Little Gym is hosting an “Enchanted” themed family day for kids and parents. Children will be able to take a real horse-drawn carriage ride for a magical experience, courtesy of Coachman’s Legacy, with all proceeds to benefit Project Joy.
To celebrate their collaboration with Disney, The Little Gym will also feature Enchanted-themed games and activities inside the gym throughout the day to entertain children and parents as well as introduce them to our non-competitive programs. Radio Disney cast members will be on-hand to play non-stop music outside, provide age appropriate giveaways for boys and girls and lead games and activities for children attending the event.
“The Little Gym’s atmosphere is always upbeat and fun, but incorporating a unique twist with Walt Disney’s Enchanted movie theme will add even more excitement and activity to this event that I know parents and children will love,” said Tracey Leacoma.
