Children’s Museum staff members will read Berenstain Bears stories aloud for visitors at 10:30 and 11:30 AM, followed by visits with the bear family to share hugs, handshakes or high fives. A variety of bear-inspired creative activities will also be available in the museum’s Project Area.
The Books Alive series is made possible by support from Irving Oil. Books Alive! programs feature visits from favorite children’s book characters and related hands-on literacy activities, to help foster an early interest in reading. Each of the Saturday morning programs is included in the museum’s regular price of admission ($6 for adults & children, $5 for seniors, free for museum members and children under age 1).
Past Books Alive! events have featured Curious George, Clifford, Franklin, Corduroy, Madeline and Stella Luna. Curious George’s appearance in March 2007 set an all-time museum visitor record. “We are thrilled to have generated so much interest in children’s literature,” said Jane Bard, Director of Education at The Children’s Museum. “The very positive reaction we got from both children and adults encouraged us to create this year’s series of Books Alive! events.”
