Six local children's authors and illustrators will share their latest picture books. At the First Church in Belmont; free and open to the public. Performances, activities, refreshments and more.

Authors who will tell the story behind their stories are:

Sarah S. Brannen is the author-illustrator of Uncle Bobby’s Wedding (Putnam, 2008). Chloe’s favorite uncle is getting married, and she’s worried that she’ll no longer be so special to him.

Anne Broyle based her book on a true story. Priscilla and the Hollyhocks (Charlesbridge, 2008) follows Priscilla from her early years on a Southern plantation to her forced march along the Trail of Tears to a chance encounter that leads to her freedom.

Timothy Basil Ering is the author-illustrator of Necks Out for Adventure!: The True Story of Edwin Wiggleskin
(Candlewick, 2008) about the dreadful day when all the wiggleskins, a community of clams, are ripped from their holes and taken away—all but a brave little Edwin. Can he save his parents and the rest of the clan?

Leo Espinosa’s and Laura Jaffe Espinosa’s first book for children is Otis and Rae and the Grumbling Splunk (Houghton Mifflin, 2008), Otis and Rae go camping for the first time ever.

James Kaczman is the writer and illustrator of Lucky Monkey, Unlucky Monkey (Houghton Mifflin, 2008) about two monkeys dealing with all kinds of luck.

Melissa Stewart is the award-winning author of When Rain Falls (Peachtree, 2008), which offers young readers a lyrical look at how animals living in forests, fields, wetlands, and deserts behave during a rainstorm.
