Many children enjoy physical activities and learn to play sports easily. Other children have difficulty with motor skills and may take longer to learn games and sports. These children may find it harder to participate in physical activity or they may avoid physical activities and sports. The PAC Study is a research study funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) to study physical activity and fitness in children.

The PAC Study is looking for boys and girls ages 7—11 with a range of coordination abilities to participate in a research study at the E.K. Shriver Center in Waltham, MA.

What will my child and I do in the PAC Study?
• You and your child will attend 2 visits, each lasting approximately 1 1/2 hours.
• We will measure your child’s height and weight (parents report their own height and weight).
• Your child will perform a test of motor coordination and tasks to assess fitness, including a 6 minute walk test.
• Your child will complete a simple questionnaire about physical activity.
• You (parent) will complete 3 questionnaires about your child’s health, development, and physical activity.
• Your child will wear a very small, lightweight activity monitor for 7 days; parent keeps an activity log.
• Families receive compensation for their participation
