The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), will celebrate the opening of the State Street Corporation Fenway Entrance with a Community Day on Sunday, June 22, featuring free admission to all exhibitions, galleries, and activities (gallery talks, tours, films, and family fun).

Exhibitions

• Free general admission will be offered for the entire day, and will include free entry to the Museum’s special exhibitions, El Greco to Velázquez: Art during the Reign of Philip III and Antonio López García.
• Three new installations will be featured in celebration of the opening of the State Street Corporation Fenway Entrance: Winslow Homer: American Scenes, showcasing the MFA’s most beloved works from this American master; Preserving History, Making History: The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, an exploration of the MFA’s history from its founding in 1870; and Great Company: Portraits by European Masters, a selection of renowned portraiture from the Museum’s collection. • Also on view will be the Museum’s tip of the cap to its Fenway Park neighbors, Rockwell and the Shinjin: Celebrating Baseball and the Red Sox, showcasing Norman Rockwell’s painting, The Rookie (The Red Sox Locker Room) (1957, Private Collection).

Fun for the Family

• Family Activity, from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. in the Sharf Visitor Center, will feature a variety of collage materials and art supplies available for families to create their own banner to celebrate the day’s festivities.
• Art Connections, all day in the Sharf Visitor Center, will offer self-guided activities that focus on specific themes, linking intriguing objects from many cultures, such as dogs, powerful figures, writing, and chocolate.
• Family Place Cart, in the Museum’s Lower Rotunda, is where families can meet from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to explore self-paced gallery activities for children ages four and older, with accompanying adults. Ancient Egyptian mysteries, stories form Southeast Asia and Africa, and art in the American and European galleries are included in this discovery experience for families.
Gallery Talks, Tours, and Films

• A Gallery Talk, What Makes a Masterpiece? will be offered from 2–3 p.m. (with ASL interpretation). Visitors will explore four great paintings by Rogier van Weyden, Paul Gauguin, John Singelton Copley, and John Singer Sargent, and will consider what it means when a work of art is called a “masterpiece.” The talk will be led by Barbara Martin, associate director, Department of Museum Learning and Public Programs, who will meet participants in the Sharf Visitor Center.

• Spotlight Tours, 15-minute tours, at noon, 1 p.m. (with ASL interpretation), and 2 p.m. will be offered in the Lee Gallery, where Elizabeth Mitchell, assistant curator, Prints and Drawings, will highlight selected works of art in the installation, Winslow Homer: American Scenes..
• Weekend Tours, led by Museum guides, will meet at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3 p.m.
• Films shown in Remis Auditorium on Community Day will be:

12:20 p.m.—At Home in Utopia
1:45 p.m.—Solitary Fragments
4:10 p.m.—The Contestant
6:00 p.m.—La Leyenda del tiempo
8:00 p.m.—DarkBluelAlmostBlack
