The two-day Boston Cycling Celebration is one of the country’s largest weekend cycling festivals. It kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 22, with the 4th annual TD Bank Mayor’s Cup, the climatic finale of USA Cycling’s National Criterium Calendar.

Elite professionals, juniors and masters division racers will compete for one of the country’s most lucrative prize purses – $30,000 – split equally between men and women. The race is a tight 0.7-mile circuit of sharp corners and high-speed chases around Boston’s City Hall Plaza, Government Center, historic Faneuil Hall and the Old State House.

Defending champions Ken Hanson (Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) and Jen McRae (787 Racing) are expected to compete, along with local cycling stars Jake Keough (UnitedHealthcare), Tim Johnson (Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com) and Jesse Anthony (Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies).

A kids race will also take place, along with a mascot ride, featuring many of New England’s favorite sports mascots.

The celebration continues on Sunday, Sept. 23, with the popular 8th Annual Hub on Wheels Citywide Ride, which will close Storrow Drive for cyclists and offer three routes (10, 30 or 50 miles) that showcase Boston’s eclectic city neighborhoods.

Riders of all ages will enjoy these scenic rides, from the Charles to the Emerald Necklace, South Boston beaches to Boston Harbor. (Cyclists must be at least 10 years old to ride the 10-mile loop and 12 years old for longer routes.)

At the City Hall Plaza starting point, the Boloco Block Party will offer food, entertainment, family-friendly activities and a Harpoon Beer Garden for adults on both Saturday (12pm-6pm) and Sunday (9:30am-2pm).

A portion of Hub On Wheels’ proceeds will benefit Technology Goes Home, a tech-training program serving inner-city families through the Boston Public Schools.
