The Marblehead Class model yacht was first developed in Marblehead in 1930, becoming the most popular design for model racing yachts for over 40 years.
It is world-renowned as a “developmental design,” having few design restrictions.
Thus, encouraging skippers to change their boat’s design to increase sailing performance.
“This year’s event will be better than ever given it is first time that M Class yacht designs from 1971 to present day will race together for national recognition.
It should make for some really exciting and close races,” said Biff Martin, the Commodore of the MMYC.
“Model yacht skippers are known as pretty tough competitors using radio controls to replicate full-size yachting competitions!”
The MMYC is honored to host the Nationals this year and anticipating a great turnout.
Past MMYC events have drawn participants from as far away as Australia, United Kingdom, Canada, and across the United States.
All are welcome to come and be part of a model yachting legacy dating back to 1892.
