A children’s author who truly ‘thinks outside the book’
On Saturday, March 27 from 11am to 12:30pm Blackstone’s of Beacon Hill invites children ages 2 to 6 to enjoy story time with Jill Shaver Lamere, children’s author and illustrator of The Wishing Star, The King’s Crown, and The Upside Down book. Lamere’s first three children’s books showcase creative at its highest level in her ability ‘to think outside the book’.
The King’s Crown is a book and a crown in one. Children are invited to take a journey through a magic castle. As the story unfolds, this waterproof book magically transforms into the child’s very own King’s crown! In the story Upside Down, a little girl wishes the world was upside down – until she talks herself right out of it! This book is designed to be read through forward, then flipped around and read upside down and through in the other direction. The Wishing Star is a 3-dimensional, glow-in-the-dark, sweet bunny lullaby! When you finish reading the story, open this book up into a star and tie the front cover to the back. Hang this glow-in-the-dark star above your bed and make a wish!
As an added treat to Lamere’s already creative books and story time, we are treating children to an early Easter surprise, a chance to meet Fudge the Bunny. Fudge is a French lop-eared rabbit who resides in Beacon Hill on Chestnut Street. Fudge, through his PR agent has kindly set aside a block of time in his busy schedule and has consented to have his photograph taken with visiting children. He will have an encore appearance the day before Easter, Saturday, April 3rd. Bring your biggest “live” bunny fans this day to be photographed by Susan Symonds of Infinity Portrait Design (Beacon Hill).
Lamere’s first children’s book, Upside Down, is the winner of the Independent Publisher’s 2006 award for Best Children’s Book, ages 6 and under. Her second title, The Wishing Star, was featured in Parents Magazine’s Goody Bag, September 2006. Her third title, The King’s Crown, is a fun, waterproof book and shiny crown in one!
