Follow the Drinking Gourd by Jeanette Winter will introduce preschoolers and their caregivers to the underground railroad.
Held at the Jackson Homestead and Museum, which was actually a stop on the underground railroad as enslaved people made their way to freedom in the North, this program will be a gentle introduction to this period of American history.
Along with the story, children will also learn the Drinking Gourd song!
Our bi-weekly Storytime program engages kids 18 months to 6 years old by focusing on play, Newton's history, literacy, and lessons from our museums.
Each 30-45 minute program includes reading from a children's book, an activity, a museum takeaway, and access to the museum afterward.
Families are welcome to bring snacks for their kids.
