On Sunday, May 3, at 2pm, the Family Discovery Series at the UMass Lowell Center for the Arts will close out the 2008/2009 season with a musical adaptation of the popular children’s book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Adapted for the stage by the book’s author Judith Viorst, and performed by Two Beans Productions of New York City, Alexander is recommended for children ages 4-9. However, this is a musical romp that entire families can enjoy together.
Have you ever had a really rotten day? Alexander has. He wakes up with gum in his hair, he trips on a skateboard, and then he accidentally dries his wet face with his good sweater – all before breakfast! Alexander can already tell – it’s going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day! Alexander’s day continues to go downhill as his teacher doesn’t like his drawing of an invisible castle, the shoe store is out of the sneakers he wants, and he accidentally makes a big mess in his dad’s office. There’s no dessert for lunch, there’s lima beans for dinner, and even worse: he has to wear his polka-dot pajamas to bed! It’s enough to make Alexander want to move … to Australia!
Laugh and sing along with Alexander’s misadventures in this hilarious musical. Discover, along with Alexander, that from time to time everyone has a terrible, horrible, no good very bad day. Even in Australia.
