“The quality of mercy is not strained . . . .' All the World’s a Stage Players, a non-profit youth Shakespeare company, ages 7 to 18, presents The Merchant of Venice, one of Shakespeare’s most thought-provoking plays, dealing with prejudice and the stultifying effects of intolerance on the lives and characters of people it is aimed against and the people who perpetrate it.

The play features Shylock, a persecuted moneylender who seeks revenge against Antonio, a Venetian merchant who owes Shylock money and has promised to pay “a pound of flesh” if he cannot repay his loan. We also meet Portia, a wealthy heiress who must marry the first man to solve a riddle involving three treasure chests, and who devises a plan to save Antonio’s life by disguising herself as a lawyer.

This full-length play, set in 16th century Venice, explores timeless themes of love and money, revenge and forgiveness, justice and mercy. Performances are at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 616 Great Road (Rt. 119), Littleton MA, on Fridays March 11 and 18 at 7:00 p.m.; and Saturdays March 12 and 19 at 7:00 p.m. All performances are FREE, and tickets may be reserved in advance by emailing All the World’s a Stage Players at awsptickets@gmail.com.
