For performers in grades 1-12, Stoneham Theatre holds weekly acting and dance classes, private voice lessons and special workshops connected to young company and Mainstage productions. We vary the structure and focus of our programs to better address the developmental stage and needs of each age group.

Registration Closes April 21st
Classes held over Memorial Day weekend.

For Students in Gr. 1-3
Theatre is the art of telling a story. Our interdisciplinary overture classes develop voice, acting and dance skills through the exploration of various tales from around the world. Each class will focus on different dance styles and acting skills.

Overture Hip Hopera
Saturdays | 9:15-10:45am
April 30 - June 18
Instructors: Members of the Resident Youth Ensemble

In our classes for older performers, every individual starts by taking an Introduction to Acting class at his or her grade level. Based in Stanislavsky's system, the introductory classes give all our actors fundamental skills as well as a shared vocabulary. After Introduction to Acting, students can take the 'Next Level' classes in whatever order makes sense for their schedule and skills.

For Students in Gr. 4-6
Living truthfully in imaginary circumstances is one definition of acting that elementary aged actors usually don't have trouble with! We work to help them confidently channel their energy and imagination into performance!

Actors constantly balance a strong sense of self with an ability to work together as a group. These classes for act 2 focus on developing strong ensembles and instilling self-confidence necessary 'to be private in public'.

Dancing for Dudes*
act 2 and act 3
Instructor: Chris Carcione
Saturdays | 9:00-10:15am
April 30 - June 18
*excellent preparation for actors interested in Curtains and Drood
Ever wanted to take a dance class but been afraid of being the only guy? Taken several dance classes but want something more tailored to you? This class will cover essential dance techniques you're likely to see in a performance or audition, but also explore dance from a guy's perspective. Combinations will include many styles including pop, lyrical jazz, musical theatre dance and ballet, and will feature choreography by the instructor as well as original choreography from music videos and lesser-known Broadway shows that require dudes to dance. Open to dudes only, in acts 2 and 3.

For Students in Gr. 7-12
Ways of thinking about acting did not begin and end with Stanislavsky. With act 3, we strive to open windows into both professional theatre artist training techniques like those of Meisner, Suzuki, LeCoq and Laban and disciplines like directing and playwriting.

Fosse!*
act 2 (by permission) and act 3
Instructor: Chris Carcione
Saturdays | 10:30-11:45am
April 30 - June 18
*excellent preparation for actors interested in Chicago (the original production was choreographed by Bob Fosse himself!)
When Bob Fosse choreographed his first Broadway musical, The Pajama Game, he introduced the world of dance to a brand new style never before seen. Today, Fosse's style is easily the most easily recognizable of his contemporaries. By studying Fosse's original choreography from musicals like Sweet Charity, Cabaret, Pippin, The Pajama Game and Dancing, students will take a chronological look at how his choreography evolved, and examine the unique elements and techniques that define the Fosse style. This class is perfect for guys and girls in act 3 who want an in-depth study of a particular style, or who want to warm up for the summer program.

Students in act 2 permitted by permission only.
