The ballet has a cast of over 75 local dancers and actors, and this year’s production is especially exciting for Ballet Misha because two NH native dancers, Colin Bradbury and Nathan Duszny, both of whom have been working professionally on Broadway in NYC, have returned home to guest star in the production.
Fortier’s ballet of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is very humorous, passionate, and most of all, magical. With three completely different sets, over 150 different colorful costumes, and a cast of characters ranging from fairies to jesters, this ballet is an entertaining and family friendly activity. “Last year, an audience member told me the production was classical ballet meets a Charlie Chaplin film, and I thought that was the perfect description,” remembers Fortier. “ It is a challenge to convey such a complex story with such a diverse emotional range through dance alone. Sometimes I think dancers have to be better actors than actual actors because we do not have words to convey the story; only our bodies, expressions, and the music,' says Amy Fortier, director of Ballet Misha and owner and director of the company's affiliate dance school in Manchester, Dimensions in Dance.
