They’re the perfect loving family. Or at least they want to be. But failed by years of traditional treatment and trampled by waves of depression, drugs, and haunting memories, matriarch Diana Goodman chooses to find her own way to normalcy.
If time and medicine can’t heal, what is the alternative? And at what cost is she willing to forge her own path? As her reality crumbles around her, and as long-forgotten pains are exhumed, a family is pushed to its very limits to retain not only its stability, but its sanity, as well.
Winner of the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Next to Normal is a harrowing, inspirational, “feel-everything” rock musical that explores the devastating effects of loss, the terrifying implications of mental illness, and the incredible resilience of the human soul.
