CYT Fundraiser Celebrates 36 Years of “Making Musicals”

It has been a long wait for Concord Youth Theatre (CYT) students, staff and participants, but that wait is over.

The new state-of-the-art CYT Theatre officially opened with the company’s recent production of “Pinocchio,” and is already in rehearsals for shows to come, including the fast approaching “Velveteen Rabbit,” which opens May 10th at the 358 Baker Avenue location.

For more information about upcoming productions, call CYT at 978-371-1482, or visit www.concordyouththeatre.org.

In the meantime, though, CYT’s uphill climb is really just beginning.

Remarked Office Manager Corinne Kinsman, “It’s true, we’ve finally reached the end of our ‘working toward our own theater’ journey, but another journey just started!” An understatement, to say the least, as the financial aspects of the project came in nearly three times what was originally anticipated for the company.

Kinsman continued, “Now the fun really begins – fundraising to help pay for it.”

Though a full fundraising campaign is slated for later in the summer to help support their 2013-14 season (and beyond), CYT is planning a few fundraising events to help assuage the immediate costs of getting the Theater ready and open to the public.

The first will be held May 4, 2013 at 7:30pm, and it’s an event truly at the heart of what makes CYT as special an organization as it is.

“Making Musicals: A One-Night Only Tribute/Fundraiser for Concord Youth Theatre” is a cabaret-style evening of entertainment featuring well-known CYT music director and composer Rene Pfister, alongside CYT alum and now company director/choreographer Carly Evans (Lisa Evans’ daughter).

As part of the event, CYT fans and friends can come celebrate 36 years of making high-quality, live theatre accessible, relevant, and memorable for young people and their families, in the new black box space.

Pfister and Evans will sing some of Broadway’s favorites, as well as selections from Pfister’s own CYT classics “Alice and Wonderland,” “Pied Piper” and more!

RENE LEWIS PFISTER’s performances have included over 200 original songs, 30 musicals, and 20 years of cabaret.

As a member of the voice faculty at The Berklee College of Music, he teaches musical theater and acting classes as well as directing performances on the BPC mainstage.

Rene graduated cum laude from Berklee College, and studied with master teachers from Stella Adler, Circle in the Square Playhouse, and Shakespeare & Company.

His vocal training includes work with Paul Harman, Jean McLelland, Ellie Stone and Matt DiBatista .

He has acted, music directed, and directed regionally in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York and has appeared on stage in the 30th Anniversary European Tour of Hair and in Oh, Figaro!

with The National Theater of the Deaf’s U.S.

touring company.

Rene has been a part of the CYT family since his first show 'Mary Poppins' in 1992 and would like to thank CYT for being a support in his own development as an artist and the love and energy CYT 'ers have put into his musicals.

CARLY EVANS is an English teacher and Head of the Drama Department at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, and a long-time CYT Player, performing in her first CYT production, The Hobbit, at the age of 12.

She went on to receive her BFA in Drama at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

When she moved back to Massachusetts in 2004, she came back to CYT as a director, choreographer and teacher, and returned to performing in area community theatre productions.

Most recently seen onstage at Theatre III (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee/DASH Award for Best Actress in a Musical) and Concord Players (The Scarlet Pimpernel), other onstage roles include Ilona in She Loves Me (DASH Award for Best Supporting Actress), Ida in Honk!, Aldonza in Man of La Mancha, Nellie in South Pacific, and Karen in Romance: 101.

She has directed/choreographed at several theatres and schools in and around New York City and across Massachusetts, most notably at CYT, where she directed Urinetown, The Crucible, Snoopy!, The Laramie Project, Cosi, Children of Eden, Sweet Charity, Seussical, Pippin and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee - just to name a few.

Between both Pfister and Evans are collectively decades of CYT participation and support, and kicking off the fundraising for the new theater with “Making Musicals” keeps everything at the heart of CYT – in its family.

To join in on the celebration on May 4 – plan ahead!

Tickets are limited for this one-night only evening, and are available for a $50 donation (though enhanced donations will be humbly and graciously accepted).

For more information, friends are asked to call CYT at 978-371-1482, or visit www.concordyouththeatre.org.
