Leo Lionni’s exquisite crafted Caldicott Honor books, Swimmy, Inch by Inch and Frederick are brought to the stage with spectacular black-light puppetry by the internationally acclaimed Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia.
Mermaid’s breathtaking puppets recreate the story of a tiny but clever fish named “Swimmy”, a creative and spirited mouse named “Frederick”, and a math-whiz worm in “Inch by Inch”. Swimmy is a tiny fish who uses ingenuity to fend off danger; Frederick, a poetic mouse, makes everyday life an artful experience and a lovable inchworm shares his facility for measuring absolutely everything.
All these creatures provide wonderful scope for the translation to puppet theatre through the gentle story telling which has brought international acclaim to Mermaid Theatre. All three stories are staged with narration and an original music score.
