Puppet Show: Under the Night Sky
You are Viewing a Past EventIf this is a recurring event that will be happening again this year, please let us know.
Have you ever looked through a window and imagined flying to the stars, sailing across the ocean, or hiking up and over the mountains along the horizon? For one young slave girl, her hopes and dreams are wrapped up in a quilt- - lovingly sewn together by her grandmother --that will one day lead them to freedom .
Under the Night Sky is a shadow puppet show inspired by the children's book
Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilts by Deborah Hopkinson which features collective narrative poems that illustrate a family¹s journey under the night sky. Recommended for ages 4-9

Nice Show But Too Many Distractions From The AudienceThis was a nice show and my 7-yo daughter liked it as did my 3.75 year-old son. I would like to read more books by this author and see more productions from PuppetKabob. The Q&A at the end where the puppeteers came out and talked to the kids was a very nice touch.
But the theater environment left something to be desired. There were a number of children there who were significantly younger than the recommended 4-9 yo age range, and they were quite disruptive, with crying, wailing, adults getting up to manage them, lifting them over their heads for a better view, and so forth. And, in spite of our having reservations and arriving 10 minutes before showtime, we were seated in the very last row because there were so many very young children taking up the front and center seats, as is the seating policy at this theater. One of the adults in our party was stuck with her view blocked by two posts and another behind someone's head.
I'd recommend this theater only under the following circumstances: First, arrive early, as in at least 20 minutes early. Otherwise you get a lousy seat, and that makes a difference. And, take the age recommendations seriously. Don't bring ages 0-2, they really spoiled the experience for the older kids, and weren't old enough to appreciate the subtleties of this particular show themselves.
