A Night At The Rock Opera will feature music from the Beatles, The Who, David Bowie, Queen and Jesus Christ Superstar, along with Will We Rock You?, the URO’s all-original mini-opera. Spotlights include the often-heard but rarely performed crown jewels of classic rock: “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Somebody to Love,” “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” “Space Oddity,” The Beatles “Abbey Road,” to name a few.
This aural spectacle is more party than opera, with music courtesy of a killer band - an insanely versatile outfit, capable of bringing off even the most intricate rock pieces with effortless ease, lighthearted humor and an audacious display of vocal prowess. The Boston music and theater community has united behind this locally-produced twenty-three member stage production, and diehard fans of the URO have had their minds blown and returned for more year after year!
The Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra was conceived by Boston musicians/filmmakers Sal Clemente and Alan Ware during the recording of their album 'Jesus Christ Superstar - A 21st Century Tribute To The Brown Album.' After putting a giant band together, the pair planned the first concert performance of A Night At The Rock Opera which was performed in 2004 at the Regent Theatre in Arlington, MA.
The production features 'Will We Rock You?”, a mini-rock opera that details the real life trials and tribulations of Ware, Clemente and their intrepid band of singers, musicians and friends as they produce their interpretation of Jesus Christ Superstar. Facing Andrew Lloyd Webber's reluctance to allow their versions of the songs from Superstar to be heard in the film, Ware and Clemente write their own rock opera in which they lampoon themselves and Webber.
