Arnold Lobel’s beloved characters hop from the page to the stage as an unlikely friendship blossoms between the cheerful, popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad. Waking from hibernation in the spring, they proceed through four fun-filled seasons, learning life lessons along the way, including a most important one about friendship, and rejoicing in the attributes that make each of us different and special.
The show serves up a healthy helping of good cheer with upbeat musical theater: excellent songs, marvelous comedy, and plenty of heart. Costumes and sets artistically lay visual clues but leave plenty of room for the imagination. Grown-ups need not worry: although every line of dialogue, song lyric, and choreography is geared towards younger children, it’s no less enjoyable for adults, with enough cleverness in the words and music to win over all but the most difficult of souls.
Frog and Toad’s message about the challenges, rewards, and tenderness of friendship can be enjoyed by anyone who is young at heart.
