WTP performed its first production of Legally Blonde, The Musical in August of 2012, during its first summer of programming. The show is based on the novel, Legally Blonde, by Amanda Brown, the 2001 film of the same name, and the Broadway show which debuted in 2007.
Sorority star, Elle Woods, doesn't take 'no' for an answer. So, when her boyfriend dumps her for someone 'serious,' Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books, and sets out to go where no Delta Nu has gone before: Harvard Law.
Along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style. Similar to the movie, the performance features “PG-13” themes and lyrics, but has an energetic and positive message.
Legally Blonde, The Musical features 23 hard working students between the ages of thirteen and seventeen years old, who have worked diligently over three weeks. These cast members reside in Wellesley as well as neighboring communities including, Needham, Newton, Natick, Framingham, Wayland and Cambridge.
Returning for the WTP revival is WTP Founder and Director Ben Rush, and original Choreographer, Hannah Shihdanian. Rounding out the team is Eric Anderson Jr., Music Director; Seif Cristobal, Lighting Designer; Ash Long, Costume Designer; Bec Lowe, Assistant Costume Designer; Alexa Lambert, Stage Manager & Prop Master; and Noah Barnes, Assistant Stage Manager.
Wellesley Theatre Project is an arts academy and a Wellesley nonprofit devoted to providing students (PreK - 12th Grade) with the opportunity to study and experience theatre and performing arts through year round classes, staged productions, workshops and summer camps.
Registration is also open for WTP’s Fall productions of You're A Good Man Charlie Brown. (Grades 2-12) and Through The Looking Glass and What Alice Found There (Grades 6-12), and weekly classes in theatre, acting, musical theatre dance, improvisation, private voice lessons, private dance lessons, and musical theatre for students Pre-K through 12th grade.
