Hosted by the non-profit Pentucket Fine and Performing Arts Foundation (PFPAF) and sponsored this year by the Newburyport Five Cent Savings Bank, the event is the culmination of a two week arts immersion program offered to students in grades 1 - 12. SummerBlast instructors are all Pentucket arts teachers and alumni.
The SummerBlast Finale opens with a visual arts exhibit at 6:45 p.m. featuring work created by students in grades 7 - 12 who participated in drawing and painting workshops over the two week period.
At 7p.m. students in grades 1 - 6 perform 'Drama at Mt Olympus' a humorous original retelling of three Greek myths -- Arachne, Echo, and Narcissus. As part of the two week SummerBlast Kidz Arts program, the young actors developed characters and created their own costumes and original music for the 1/2 hour-long play.
After a brief intermission, SummerBlast teens from the On Stage workshop present, 'Laffin' School', a one-act play written by Keith Jackson. This is a classic school room comedy, where an inexperienced substitute teacher meets her match in a class filled with wise-cracking students.
Admission is free and all are welcome. Donations to PFPAF are always gratefully accepted (and tax deductible). All revenue generated at PFPAF events, such as SummerBlast, directly supports arts education and programming in the Pentucket Schools.
