Granite Railway 'Quarry-To-Wharf' Tours
Explore the remnants of and learn much of the fact, and fable, about the first chartered commercial railroad in our nation.
On this 3-1/2-hour van tour (with a bit on foot) by a guide with 27 years experience, we'll visit the preserved 1826 railway terminus at Bunker Hill Ledge; several surviving segments of the old right-of-way; some quarries with spectacular views; the 1830 double-track incline; the Neponset River wharf; structures significant to the granite, iron and railroad industries in Quincy; and more.
Sponsored by the Massachusetts Bay Railroad Enthusiasts, Inc., a non-profit educational corporation organizing railroad excursions since 1934.
