WGBH Volunteer Costume Handlers Needed!
At several WGBH events throughout the year PBS characters are present to interact with guests and with these characters, costume handlers are needed for assistance.
The joy children receive when they see their favorite character before their eyes is priceless!
Characters, however, cannot speak and also need help navigating through crowds.
Costume handlers are therefore key to the success of bringing characters to life.
WGBH Costume Handlers are responsible for assisting with character preparation backstage, escorting costume characters around the venue, encouraging guests to interact with the character and speaking on behalf of the character.
Since costume handlers sometimes have to act as the voice of the characters, volunteers should be friendly, creative and patient.
Costume handlers must also be responsible and manage time well.
The character’s safety is another responsibility of the costume handler.
Since the characters are very popular with children, costume handlers must use good reasoning and respect while managing excited children around the character at all times.
Performance experience is a plus, but not required.
