WGBH Needs Volunteers for FUNFEST!

The WGBH FunFest – a day of ice cream and music – returns to WGBH Studios (One Guest Street, Brighton, MA) on Saturday, July 12, from 11am-4pm.

This fun-filled community event will feature ice cream from vendors including Friendly’s, JP Licks, Ben & Jerry’s, Abbott’s Frozen Custard, and Batch.

There will also be live musical and dance performances throughout the day.

Kids will have the chance to enjoy interactive games, moonbounce jumping, face painting, and more!

Plus, PBS characters Peep, Word Girl, Curious George, Arthur, Clifford, and Buddy the Dinosaur will be there to meet their adoring fans.

WGBH is expecting 2,000+ attendees and we need your help to ensure kids of all ages have FUN at FunFest.

Top 3 volunteer positions in order of preference (e.g. costume character, costume handler, floater, etc.).

** If you’d like to be a costume character, please note your character preference based on size requirements provided below)
Preferred shift: (Saturday, July 12, 8:30am-12:30pm or 12- 4:30pm) ** Volunteers can sign up for both shifts on Saturday, July 12.

Set-up Volunteer
Description: Work with WGBH Event Production Team to bring event items and supplies from inside One Guest Street to WGBH’s visitor parking lot; staple tablecloths to vendor and activity tables; and set-up signage.

Admission Volunteer (6 per shift)
Description: Sell FunFest tickets, check names off RSVP list; collect email ticket receipts and groupons; and help with line management.

Concession Stand (3 per shift)
Description: Make and distribute popcorn or cotton candy to event guests.

Costume Handler (6 per shift)
Description: Assist with character preparation backstage; escort costume character around the venue; and speak on behalf of the character.

Costume Character (6 per shift)
Description: Wear a costume (see below) and interact with guests.
• Arthur (5’4”-5’9”, average build)
• Buddy the Dinosaur (no taller than 5’4”, petite build)
• Clifford (5’4”-5’9”, average build)
• Curious George (5’1”-5’3”, average build)
• Peep (5'3'-5'7', average build)
• Word Girl (5'4'-5'9', average build)

Curious George Temporary Tattoo Artist (8 per shift)
Description: Apply Curious George temporary tattoos to children’s hands or arms.

Face Painter (8 per shift)
Description: Design simple color images on kids’ faces.

**Sample drawings will be provided as examples.

Floater (5 per shift)
Description: Provide guests with directions to activities, bathrooms, vendor tables, etc., and fill in for other positions as needed.

Floaters must be friendly, outgoing, and eager to provide assistance to guests.

Food Truck Line Manager (3 per shift) Description: Help manage food truck lines.

Freezer Truck Runner (2 per shift)
Description: Make sure ice cream is going to the correct vendor table.

**Volunteers should be able to comfortably lift 30-40 pounds if necessary.

Ice Cream Scoopers (25 per shift)
Description: Serve delicious ice cream (provided by our generous vendors) to hungry guests in the mood for a refreshing sweet treat on a hot summer day.

Kid’s Alley Carnival Games (4 per shift)
Description: Provide guests with game instructions; help manage line and distribute prizes.

Main Stage Runner (2 per shift)
Description: Help bring performers’ gear from drop-off area at One Guest Street to main stage area; assist with stage set-up.

Merchandise Assistant (3 per shift)
Description: Provide excellent customer service to our guests as they shop for event keepsakes.

Moonbounce Patrol (2 per shift)
Description: Help maintain moonbounce order; group kids by age to ensure safety; manage line; and keep track of jump time to keep line moving.

Obstacle Course Patrol (3 per shift)
Description: Help kids get through the course; maintain safety from start to finish line.

Parking Volunteer (1 per shift)
Description: Wave to traffic on One Guest Street; direct cars inside garage for event parking.

“Perfect Sundae” Coloring Station (3 per shift)
Description: Kids will draw their idea of a perfect ice cream sundae and these drawings will be put on display in the art area.

Volunteers will keep the coloring area tidy; encourage kids to draw; and hang up artwork.

Photographer (3 per shift)
Description: Take pictures of Main Stage performances, guests posing with costume characters or rove around event venue to capture various FunFest activities.

**Photographers, please send samples of your work to be considered.

Photographer Assistant (3 per shift)
Description: Walk with photographers during the event, record names of people in pictures and ask guests in photos to fill out appearance release forms as needed.

Water Cooler (2 per shift)
Description: Refill water jugs; replenish cup supply; make sure guests know water is available – and stay hydrated!

This is going to be a great event but volunteers are key to its success!
