The history of Benson’s Homemade Ice Cream leads us back to Katherine Perley, who ran a farm stand at the current location on route 133. In order to lure more customers to the farm, an ice cream stand was opened in 1932, ran out of the side porch.
Today, four generations later, Katherine’s great, Tina, continues to run the family owned business now in its 80th year.
The stand opens in the early Spring, and closes for the season in October. Throughout the season, customers come by to enjoy the friendly family atmosphere, the old-fashioned ice cream stand nostalgia, and the homemade ice cream only found at Benson’s.
Many of the customers are regulars, returning every season for the same ice cream they enjoyed growing up, passing the experience onto their own children. Others are passer bys, realizing that if the line is so long there must be something worth the wait!
Benson’s Fresh Native Ice Cream is made on site with fresh fruit from local farms. Each flavor is available for a limited time when the fruit is in season. The cost is higher but you can taste the difference. All flavors are sold in pre-packed half gallons as well as single servings and Sundaes.
