Wagamama, a popular euro-japanese noodle house in London, recently opened new location in Harvard Square. It's a cool atmosphere, very sleek and IKEA-like. You'll find about 12 rows of picnic-table style tables, but very european. The long large room is open and airy with with an open kitchen, high ceilings and a great feel.
The food is Japanese style, with dishes like Yaki Soba, Miso Soup, Noodle bowls, etc..

This is a good restaurant for families in that it has a kids menu, the food is pretty good, and it it served pretty much within 3-5 minutes of your ordering it. Plus the seating inspires lively chat and a general din, which somehow keeps young ones entertained. Maybe its the seating. Whatever it is, it works.
