The Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden is located at the Quadrangle in Springfield, Massachusetts, the city where Theodor Seuss Geisel was born and which appears to have inspired much of his work.
Sculptor Lark Grey Dimond-Cates, who is also Geisel's step-daughter, created the endearing bronze sculptures of Dr. Seuss and his most beloved characters.
- Face masks must be worn by all visitors ages 3 and up.
- Social distancing is required and will be enforced; parties of less than 10 people may remain together; children must stay with adults at all times.
- Access to the sculptures may be limited during extreme weather conditions.
Parking:
Park free in the Springfield Library & Museums' lot on State Street across from the library, or take the first left past the library onto Elliot Street, then left again onto Edwards Street to the Library & Museums' other lots. Additional public parking lots are located nearby.
Note: When you visit the Memorial, you won't want to miss the following exhibits in the Connecticut Valley Historical Museum:
Seuss on the Loose in Springfield
An exhibition that tells the story of Theodor Geisel's (Dr. Seuss's) childhood in Springfield with family photographs and genealogical information about the Seuss-Geisel family history. Also included are photographs and memorabilia from Kalmbach & Geisel Brewery, the family business founded by Ted's grandfather. The exhibit also features some remarkable comparisons of Dr. Seuss's fanciful illustrations with actual places in Springfield that he would have known.
SeussScape:
A small play area for young children with bright, colorful walls illustrated with scenes and creatures from Dr. Seuss's books. Activities include a push-button listening station where children can hear the Cat in the Hat talking, Dr. Seuss books, child-size furniture, and a display of Dr. Seuss toys and collectibles inspired by his books.
